I would like to point out that we did win the AFC West this year.

I don’t know if I can talk about that because this city has kind of grown under my skin. I love staying downtown at the hotel we stay at and I look around when I drive in in the morning. I go about 5 o’clock in the morning for a 1 o’clock game and I just drive around the streets a little bit and, like I told you, I am feeling it right now talking about it. We address it every week. We play for the city. It is really important to us.

I think one of the things that really upsets me is people don’t know what it is all about here. How beautiful it is and the people are so great. They are typical Midwestern, maybe Northeastern people, where you walk down, go to a store, and everybody is cordial and nice. It is too bad nobody knows that. They talk about Detroit like it is old New York. It is not right. We want to prove that point. They call us over-aggressive and yeah, we are. We play for a big reason. We play for this city and for the state and I got to stop, I am telling you, it gets to me talking about that because I feel like I belong here. I look around and people work for a living here. When I drive in about 4, it looks like a traffic jam. I finally figure out where they all go; they go to work. For me, personally, this is real big and real important.

Gunther Cunningham, Lions Defensive Coordinator

I teared up a little reading this.

Playoff Berth on the line tomorrow. Lets Go Lions.

I’m watching the NFL RedZone countdown right now.

It’s literally a countdown clock on the screen telling me how long it is until football starts. It only does the countdown for the last minute and a half, but its still really odd that that was my activity.

It definitely says something about where I am in my life.

Tebowing.

Tebowing.

In other news, Cam Newton is very tall. I’m pretty sure I predicted he would suck. Backtrack starts now. You know how much I love Blake Griffin? Cam Newton could become the NFL’s Blake Griffin*. Young, awesome, does unusually good things while not being on a very good team. He’s really really awesome. For real. Now he just also has to be funny and charming. Seriously though, its been a while since I’ve been this excited about a specific NFL player. Peyton Manning in his prime (e.g. while I was in middle school) has to be the last one.
*Key difference as it applies to my love of Blake Griffin v. my potential love of Cam Newton: While I love basketball I barely care about the Pistons, but I’ve been a rabid Lions fan for my whole life. So, while part of the reason I love Blake Griffin is that I don’t really have any Pistons I really am enamored with, for Cam Newton to occupy a similar place in my heart to Blake Griffin, he has to be really good, really exciting to watch, and has to figure out a way to supplant Stafford/Suh/Megatron/Best?/Hanson/Really it depends on the week/It’d be cool if next week its Fairley/Avril as my favorite football player.

Detroit. Springsteen. TV. The Michigan Wolverines. Other things. But mostly those four things.
